Founding Attorney Joshua Key
Growing up in Kansas City, I developed a deep love of barbecue, Kansas City sports, and good coffee. However, in the over ten years living in Alabama, I now despise cold weather and love fishing on the Warrior River. As any Alabamian knows, one must pick a side, and I have been a loyal Alabama fan since I could walk.
I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, moving to Alabama in 2008 to be closer to my family. I am a third-generation entrepreneur, passionate about helping families with their business and estate needs. The grandson of a grocery store and hardware store owner, I saw how a family’s hard work could improve personal and financial situations. My family developed many strategies to continue to build on the financial stability created by the previous generations. My father was an airline pilot for 38 years, growing my deep love of aviation. We spent many hours flying all over the southeast, discussing business, how to treat people, and learning life lessons. Following in my father’s footsteps, I became both a legal entrepreneur and an airline pilot.
During my life, I saw how estate planning and elder law could play an essential role in protecting assets for future generations. During my parents’ deaths, I saw how estate planning and elder law strategies impacted estates, drained assets, and learned how to protect income and property from the ravages of creditors and medical bills. From this, I developed a deep passion for helping others avoid mistakes that impacted my family.
I began my legal career practicing as in-house counsel for Regional Paramedical Services, the largest ambulance provider in Central and Northern Alabama. In this capacity, I provided representation in legal issues regarding the development and implementation of business strategy, corporate governance, Medicare and Medicaid compliance policies, personal injury, employment law, intellectual property issues, state and federal tax and corporate filings, conflict of interest policies, and organizational structure.
Education and Accolades
I attended Avila University, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration while playing college baseball. After graduation, my entrepreneurial spirit led me to the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where I received a Juris Doctor degree and a Master of Business Administration at the same time in 2007. I completed the combined degree program, scheduled to take four years, in three. During my education, I received many academic honors, including being named to the National Dean’s List, reserved for the top one percent of all college students and recognized in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
